Tony Schiff, JD, MPH
Course: Legal Environment of Health Services Management
Anthony Hunter Schiff, JD, MPH, is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, teaching the Legal Environment of Health Services Management course in the EMPH Program.
Professor Schiff was admitted to practice law in California in 1977 and the District of Columbia in 1979. He worked at the White House in 1978 for the Special Assistant to the President for Health. He returned to California and in 1979, initially practiced on his own and then joined a Century City law firm. In 1984, he opened his own law firm to specialize in health care law. The practice focused on representing medical groups, physicians, and medical staffs. A proponent of patient centered care, he has worked with clients and collaborative partners to organize Center of Excellence programs in cancer care, cardiology, and orthopedics. He also has helped clients build focus factory programs in specific areas of surgery.
Professor Schiff attended UC Santa Barbara (1970-72) and Lewis and Clark College (1972-1974) (Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science, 1974). He earned his Juris Doctorate at Southwestern University, School of Law (May 1977). In August 1977, he attended UCLA School of Public Health (Master of Public Health, Health Services and Hospital Administration, December 1978). While he remains a current member of the California Bar, he elected to go inactive (February 2024).
Professor Schiff is a member of the American Health Law Association, the California Society for Health Care Attorneys, and the Los Angeles County Bar Association Health Law Section.
